Regular Raajje Transport Link (RTL) ferry services are scheduled to begin in Faafu and Dhaalu atolls on Tuesday, the Ministry of Transport has announced.

In a statement issued Monday, the ministry said the first week of services will be provided free of charge to allow residents of both atolls to familiarise themselves with the RTL system. Paid services will begin on the 25th of this month.

According to the ministry, passengers will be able to purchase tickets through RTL’s website and mobile application. RTL services are already in operation in Thaa Atoll, and with the addition of Faafu and Dhaalu, the network will expand to 14 atolls.

The government has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to implement the RTL project, a national public transport initiative rolled out in three phases across six zones.

The ministry said the project aims to provide reliable, affordable sea transport and establish a system that delivers both economic and social benefits to communities across the country.
