President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said that for the safety and wellbeing of the Maldivian people, in this world and the Hereafter, society must uphold the practice of praying five times a day.
In his Ramadan address on Tuesday evening, the President described Ramadan as a month of happiness and goodness, and a time for personal and collective reform. He said meaningful change in families, communities and the nation begins with individuals reforming themselves.
The President said Maldivians want to see a society that respects rules and regulations, upholds religious values and preserves cultural traditions.
“We want a society that prays five times a day, a society that protects the dignity of children and respects elders. We want a society free from drugs, that rejects harmful habits, and fully respects Islamic principles, a society that maintains its own culture and beautiful civilisation,” he said.
He added that these values are essential for the security of the Maldivian people, for success in both worlds, and for the nation to progress in step with the times.
Describing the start of Ramadan as an opportunity to seek Allah’s help, the President said the holy month teaches discipline, time management and devotion to good deeds.
“So let us each start with ourselves. Let us make this year’s holy month of Ramadan a month of educating ourselves according to religious and national principles, in order to bring about positive change in the country,” he said.
