Bangladeshi man detained for holding fellow expat hostage, beating him

A Bangladeshi national has been arrested from Male’ on suspicion of holding a fellow expatriate hostage and beating him.

Iqbal Mia, 35, was presented at the Criminal Court on Friday for his remand hearing.

The warrant for his remand shows Iqbal is accused of holding a fellow expatriate hostage and physically assaulting him.

The court found the evidence adequate, and remanded him in custody of the police for 30 days.

Court documents also show Iqbal is an undocumented worker.
