The Maldives Zakat House on Sunday commenced the collection of Zakat al-Fitr via cash and card, aimed specifically at supporting individuals who are unfamiliar with making zakat payments online.

In Male’, collection began Sunday at counters established in the Islamic Center Conference Hall.

The scheduled times for zakat collection at these counters are:

  • February 22 – March 9: 10:00 am to 01:00 pm every working day.
  • March 10 – March 19: 11:00 am to 02:00 pm every day except Fridays and Saturdays.

In the atolls, individuals unfamiliar with online payments can pay zakat by visiting their respective local council offices. Councils will utilize a specially developed "Fitr Portal" to accept zakat in the form of cash or grain.

When members of the public visit council offices or the Islamic Centre to pay zakat in cash, authorized staff will immediately record the transaction in the portal. Upon completion of the payment, the individual will receive an instant SMS confirming the amount paid as Fitr zakat.

Additionally, if any extra amount was paid as Sadaqah (charity), that figure will also be included in the message.

Although the acceptance of cash and card payments began Sunday, the Maldives Zakat House has been accepting Fitr zakat online since the first day of Ramadan.
