Family of five moved to temporary shelter after fire at Hulhumale’ apartment

A family of five has been provided temporary shelter by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), after a fire caused massive damages to their apartment in Hulhumale’.

The fire broke out at around 11:00 pm Friday at an apartment located on the seventh floor of One Avenue, an apartment complex located in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

The cause of the fire is unclear. However, it originated from the kitchen.

While the fire did not result in any injuries, it caused massive damages to the kitchen area, and rendered the apartment inhabitable without repairs.

The NDMA says it has arranged accommodation and food to five people for a period of three days in the wake of the fire.

This includes an elderly person and a child with asthma.

The NDMA is conducting a full assessment of the damage from the fire.
